It's a sad song / but we sing it anyway

 Signed up for my classes for next semester!! I'm really excited for "Achieving Organizational Excellence."  Also work finally sent me stuff to work on for the first time in three months, so that's exciting and good.  I didn't get the other job I was interviewing for, but I can't be too upset about it because I'm not sure how much time it would have allowed me to work on my degree.  This also allows me to look for jobs that are more in line with the career I want.  Hopefully, I can find a library assistant job or something similar.  The poor dog is wearing a cone now because she keeps licking at a particular spot and is irritating the skin there.  With any luck, she just has to wear it a few days for the irritation to heal.  Excited for this weekend because I get to make lemon bars and my favorite soup, butternut squash and pumpkin.  Haven't posted in a bit because of the holidays and also I was sick with a respiratory infection, but I'm finally feeling good and I have a better balance on things now.

I got into my #1 pick for school!!!!

I read the Gotham War event last night and, honestly, I really enjoyed most of it.  It was interesting to see how Zdarsky dealt with a lot of the problems that Batman has been accused of over the years, like his excessive violence against small time criminals and how he treats his children.  It was also nice to have a comic that remembers that Jason is actually smart, good at puzzles and noticing small details, and that he loves the arts and literature.  The plot line with Jason and Bruce was also very interesting (to me, as a Jason fan) because of how much of it was built upon how their relationship has been since Jason came back to life and referenced a few things from Jason's Robin run and Under the Red Hood.  I also like how Zdarsky acknowledges that Selina and Jason have more in common than Jason and Bruce and shows how they both think similarly about how to handle crime in Gotham.  It was also fun seeing just how complicated Jason's morals are and how that plays into his relationship with vigilantism. Although, I wasn't the biggest fan of the Gotham War: Red Hood two issue tie in, simply because it felt disconnected from the rest of the event until the last half of the second issue, and Jason is characterized differently in it.  Not not enough to make me outright dislike it, but it was still a little odd moving between that and the other comics that were part of this event.  I did also find it weird that, at the end, there are two different cases of Jason purposefully crashing a plane/blimp into something and almost dying because of it.  It was very "If I had a nickle...I'd have two nickles."  It also felt a bit like a way to avoid having Bruce and Jason have the fight that was so clearly building over the injection Bruce gave Jason, and while I understand that the event had a limited amount of space to do everything, it was still a bit disappointing not getting really any resolution on that aside from the Joker of all people giving Jason a sort of antidote.  Anyway, I give Gotham War overall an 8/10.
